RANDOM THOUGHTS (won't cause mental indigestion!!)

Hi everyone!
This year it's been exhilarating to witness some of you during your "mini Aquinian reunions"...I saw those dazzling smiles in this blogsite and on Facebook , enjoying your cherished moments with old friends. Our reunions are like MDRO's --In a very POSITIVE way, no other cultures are needed, they can easily be identified, they are catching, and, resistant to time, and change!!

The calendar of the upcoming events is even more encouraging!!Here's a list of some of them---

Class '79 and Class '80- Las Vegas, June 14-22, 2011  (Al Espinas-Contact person}

Class '73-  May, 2011- Bahamas Cruise  (Erma Basallote Ofreneo-Contact person)

Class '72- February 13-19, 2012--DESTINATION: Legaspi City, Philippines (Contact person- Carmen Calisin)

AULCNAI Grand Reunion- Destination: Legaspi City,  Philippines  (Feb. 13-15, 2012) Owen Basco Escalada--Coordinator, AULCNAI President

Please join your fellow Aquinians in any of these events, or better still,   be in all of them!!

During one of my visits to the Philippines several years ago, I had the privilege of meeting Fr. R. Mendez, the Rector and President of Aquinas University. He was curious about Aquinas reunions. He made the observation that he has attended similar events in the past with other organizations , and some of them "turned him off".You know, the usual "showcase" that  happens in a number of them. Who arrives with the latest Mercedes Benz model, who owns the biggest house, etc.. which translates to..who's the richest, and most successful?

I remember telling him that he should attend one of ours..(which, to this day, has not happened yet!!!! )

Competition!! Is it still relevant these days?. Do we still need to prove "we have arrived"?..here's a quote from one unknown writer.."Compare yourself only to time...not to other people.."..On a lighter note, my arthritic knees and achy breaky back are enough proof I have arrived..at That GOLDEN AGE!!!

My dear colleagues, let's make a coordinated effort to COMPETE during our reunions..(but on a different level)..Can we be MORE tolerant, MORE accepting of each other's shortcomings?..Can we be happier for each other as we celebrate our friend's success?..Let's build bridges that make emotional connections thru our kindness and understanding, instead of walls of indifference and intolerance...Above all, let's remember, and let's CELEBRATE!!!

I look forward to "FACETIME"..( has more impact than Facebook) !!

See y'all!!

You bet, I miss you.

A Message From Your President

Dear fellow Aquinians ,

I would like to introduce myself again as it has been a while since I've communicated. This was before we had a website to submit our blog.  I am Owen (Owenita) Basco Escalada, Class of 1977 and the president of the AULCNAA. I tried to resign as the president but since I don't have a replacement I still am the president until we hold an election. I am ready and willing to hold this position until then.

I just attended a week-long conference of the Congress of Neuro Surgeons in San Francisco and I am looking forward to the coming changes in health care delivery. Wireless Medicine, including wireless ECG telemetry, vital signs and remote EEG monitoring are in the process of development.  A telesensor is attached to a patient and the physician has the ability to upload these information on their cell phones. By attaching a sensor on a patient's abdomen the physician will be able to get the glucose result every 5 minutes. The military is also improving healthcare delivery to our soldiers through Telemedicine.

I could go on and make a long list of innovative techniques that we as Nurses in the United States have a chance to participate in and make our practice challenging . But the point I'm driving at is our home country, the Philippines is still a third world country especially in the provinces and the remote areas. Health care for everybody is still hard to access and our nursing students don't have the exposure to these innovative techniques . There are still a number of nursing schools that operate purely on monetary gains and not on producing knowledgeable and skilled nurses.

My fellow alumni, we have a responsibility to assist our Alma Mater the Aquinas University College of Nursing Legaspi, to provide our expertise in any way we can. Please include in your agenda when you hold your yearly class reunions, projects to help the College of Nursing. Menchu Calisin has listed activities that you can do to help the college. Please check out her blog(s). But nurses are known for creativeness and resourcefulness that I'm pretty sure all of you will have more ideas.

Let's not forget our College of Nursing because the foundation that we got from our school is what made us what we are now.

Las Vegas REUNION, Class 73, Part 2

Hello everyone, AGAIN!!!;))

To our classmates who couldn't attend our merriment 2 weeks ago, you missed a lot!!! And we missed you soo much..Try accessing Linda Nacario's and Jeany De Villa's facebook site for the photos...I will post mine later..(.waiting for hubby to do it!!!). Just to update us all, in Las Vegas, we had discussed about having a BAHAMAS cruise middle of May next year, 2011...Month of MAY was picked to make sure there'll be no HURRICANES!!! June is the start of hurricanes along the gulf of Mexico and extends for several months after,  We don't want to be anywhere near it! ;-))...Any comment about this is more than welcomed and will be appreciated mucho;)

Mga amiga ko, hope we'll have increase in the number of attendees..Talagang lalo nang SUPER ang mga kaogmahan ta kayan… Babair will arrange for the cruise schedule...para maka group discount;))..Eleven months to prepare for it....I think it will be worth it, "as we are approaching our golden years".   Jeany said that.  ;))

May the Lord continue to shower us all with HIS everlasting love, patience, good health, longer & abundant life...

Warm hugs to all.
