FALL REFLECTIONS, AT IBA PA...
Autumn!! I love the feel of the crisp early morning breeze caressing my face....I t has been a summer scorcher in Texas, and the '70's temperature IS blessed relief from UP ABOVE.
In the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives, we oftentimes take the simple, precious gifts for granted, like a sunny, cool day and the vibrant colors of an autumn day..We have become adept at tuning out our surroundings, even calls for help from our friends...and clients..?..... Are we not sometimes guilty when the monitors alarm and the call bells ring, and we fail to respond in a timely manner , because we are glued to that computer??
I recall a funny incident written about a pollster doing a survey on APATHY..He approached this guy on the street and asks him.."SIR, did you know that apathy is one of the major problems in our society today?" His response?..'I don't know, and I don't care!!"
A significant event involving our family and loved ones inevitably spurs us to action; that event becomes a catalyst for reflection, and hopefully, change. The sudden death of a dear friend's loved one recently made all of us aware, once again, that there are NO guarantees in life.. a wake up call to remind us that the present, as is often quoted, IS a GIFT!!!
Harvard Business School Professor Michael Norton, who researches the Psychology of Happiness, in an article "Happy Money" ( Time magazine, 10/2011) says, "Buying a new car, like eating french fries, can satisfy a craving. But spending on experiences like leisure and travel , or on friends and loved ones offers a longer term bang for the buck."
That said, will you, my fellow Aquinians share your time , talent and treasures with us as we celebrate a milestone in our Professional journey? Let's meet in AUL next year!!.
Travel, anyone?...You betcha!!!
Many hugs from,
Menchu
P.S.
Congratulations to our dear Susan Monforte Matito for winning that grand prize...She opted to keep the car in lieu of cash..Knowing Sansue, she will be behind those wheels, riding those brakes, to visit friends, who appreciate her loving presence, as always..See ya!!

Grand Reunion - February 13 , 14 & 15 , 2012
"THE AQUINIAN NURSE... A GLOBAL PROFESSIONAL..."
Dear Friends and Fellow Alumni,
We are one year away from the February 2012 Aquinas University of Legaspi College of Nursing Alumni International reunion. It seems like it is still a long way but time flies.
I would like to invite and encourage all of you to attend the reunion. For those of you who didn't join us in the 2005 reunion, I can share that it's not only renewing friendships and catching up to what's happening with our lives, but it is also sharing and giving back to our Alma Mater and the community.
We are working hard to make the program of activities as interesting, fulfilling and fun. The following is the tentative program:
Feb. 12 - Registration (Please click here to display the three-page
form, then print, fill-out, and mail.)
Or drop in anytime at AUL, Rawis campus Alumni Affairs
office.
Feb. 13 - Mass
"REKindling the Fire of Nursing Commitment with the Pioneers"
Morning Session - open to graduating nursing students
Afternoon Session - open to all alumni
Exhibits all day
Feb. 14 - "Sharing Is Caring"
Outpatient Clinic/Medical Mission
(This might also become a surgical mission)
The recipient will be the adopted barangay of AUL.
The nursing students and faculty of the College of Nursing
will be participating.
Feb. 15 - Mass
8am - 3pm GET-TOGETHER at Dhio Endheka
Spring Resort, Buang, Tabaco, Albay
7pm - 11pm Dinner/Dance at Top of Hotel St. Ellis

These affairs on Feb. 15 will be exclusive to the Class of
1972, AULCNAI attendees and their immediate family,
(spouse and children, significant other), invited classmates
of international alumni, and invited guests.
Meeting with the Father Rector and Vic Peralta (Dean of the College of Nursing), date to be determined.
I am looking for volunteers to set up an Exhibit Booth of their specialty. I am setting up a Perioperative Nursing Pathway and Class of 72 is setting up a Critical Care Nursing and The Pioneers booths. Please contact me if you want to volunteer.
This reunion is a combined celebration of the 40th anniversary of Class of 1972 and the AULCNAI grand reunion. Menchu Calisin and I are working hard to make this reunion a success. We are counting on your support.
I have drafted the invitation letter and registration form. I have information for hotel accommodation which I include in the registration form (Please click here to display the three-page form, then print, fill-out, and mail.).
Lastly, I would like to share the good news from Vic Peralta. AULCN has a 10th placer in the recent board exam, Cezar Ryan Ortiz, class of 2010.
Please forward this email and call your classmates and encourage them to join us in Legaspi City.
Sincerely yours,
Owen Basco Escalada

Dear Fellow Alumni,
Re: AUL Alumni Reunion June 18, 2011, Las Vegas, Nevada (AULCNAI)
We have approximately 19 weeks to go before the reunion. To this date we have approximately 50 alumni who had assured us of their participation. Some of them had already booked their hotels so if you want to be a part of this grand event, make sure that you make your plans by now.
I am also very happy to tell you that our current alumni president, Owen Escalada had re-arranged her schedules and will be joining us in this event. Please read this email that she sent to me recently;
“Hi Al,
If you're still in PI, I hope you're having a grand time. Our class 1977 will join the Las Vegas reunion. My classmates and I thought this will be a good venue to get together, plan and encourage the alumni to participate in the February 2012 Grand Reunion in Legazpi City. I also plan to hold the election of the AULCNAI officers. The effectivity date of the elected officers will be Feb. 2012 after the grand reunion. I would like to finish my term and the plans already set before I turn over the leadership. You can send me information and I'll forward to my classmates. The idea of collecting$50 from all attendees is good because we can use the funds to spend for the medical mission, donate to the college, or to whatever cause all of us deem necessary. You will have a better idea of what the college need after your visit. Vic said that he received the balikbayan box of journals, books and medical supplies I sent. I hope this helped the college in the accreditation.
Best regards.
Owen”
Like what I had previously stated on my email, there will be a pre-reunion gathering at Gloria Raquel’s residence, few minutes from the casino strip. I encourage everyone to plan their trips so they can attend to this equally-important, fun-filled event. There will be lots of food, drinks and of course great opportunity to socialize with your own batch and co-alumni. As we get closer, we will be informing everyone the details of the June 18 program of event as it is quite hard for us to make plans specially when it comes to reserving a hall since we don’t know the close approximate number of attendees.
Please call me if you have any questions (916) 749-4433, (916) 778-7614 or email me at pnaesp@gmail.com.
Thank you all!
Al Espinas

AUL Alumni Reunion: June 2011 LasVegas
January 9, 2011
Dear Aquinas University College of Nursing Graduates:
Happy New Year!
AUL Nursing batch ‘80 have planned to hold a reunion in Las Vegas this coming June. However, we learned that other AUL Nursing graduates had also expressed their interests on joining this event. I talked to Enee Goyena last October in San Antonio and she gave me some pointers on how to start this plan for a grand reunion. I also had a follow-up meeting with Glo Baranda Mamaril, Jeannie Hermio and Nards Bajamundi last December 27, 2010 in Los Angeles CA as well.
Here are the suggested dates for this reunion.
June 17, 2011 - will be a pre-reunion gathering which will be held at the Las Vegas residence of Gloria Raquel, batch ‘81.
June 18, 2011 - will be the alumni reunion for all graduates.
June 19, 2011 - different batches can have their own mini gathering should they prefer, otherwise we all stick together for a memorable group experience.
As suggested by our “Elders”, we will be requiring a $50.00 dollar confirmation fee from every alumnus. I will let you know whom to send your checks to on my next letter.
We haven’t finalized the venue yet as we are still in the process of negotiating with a few selected hotels. I will be informing everyone through email or Facebook, the final list of activities for this reunion as we get closer to that date. You can make reservations to any hotel of your choice as it is difficult to recommend which hotel since some of you have time-share thus limiting your choices.
Thank you all and please help me disseminate this letter to your AUL contacts! You can start emailing me back to confirm your attendance as this will help us in making a more specific plan for this event. Respond early and that's the key in making this a "Fun-Filled" gathering although as what our current Alumni president, Owen Escalada said, "It is not just meeting our former classmates, but getting together to plan on how we can give back to our school". Should you have any suggestion (other than the inclusive dates), please feel free to email me.
Sincerely,
Al Espinas
