AULCNAI News

AULCNAI
March 12, 2012

Dear Fellow Alumni,

I just got an email from Dean Vic Peralta, AULCN. I would like to share the good news to all.

Our Aquinian Nursing Students got the First Runner Up in the Regional PNSA Congress held at the USAnt, Iriga City which was participated by 11 Colleges of Nursing in Bicol Region. We are only 3 points less than the overall champion, the CamSur Polytechnic Colleges in Nabua. Ateneo de Naga got the 2nd Runner Up. But we are so proud of AULCN since we are the Champion in Nursing Care Plan Formulation, which is the heart of Nursing; Champion in Extemporaneous Speaking, Vocal Solo and Volleyball Men. We got the 2nd and 3rd place in other events.

The Nursing Student Council would like to thank AULCNAI for the support. This drove the nursing students to perform at their best.

The recent AULCNAI Reunion in Legazpi City gave the College of Nursing a big boost.

Congratulations to the Nursing Students for a job well done.

CORRECTION to my previous information:  The Bell donated by AULCNAI Class of 1972 is for St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel. It was announced by Fr. Robbie during the Mass that the nursing alumni pledged for the purchase of the P100,000 Bell. St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel reopened February 24. After renovation its walls are now tinted glass, newly repainted and church pews repaired. There are vacant spaces for the Dominican Saints on both sides of the altar. The Bell donated by nursing alumni shall be used in this chapel.

We are looking forward to attending Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel.

TOP TEN REASONS TO BE GRATEFUL FOR REUNIONS

Postscript from a Pioneer...

10. It's facetime!! 81% of your former classmates show up with the same winning smiles, definitely of different dress sizes, gratefully nobody on wheelchair yet, and...

on the parts and repair dept, all present, and they are of the same age!!!

9.  Had the chance to sit in the Nursing Demonstration Room once again, with empty heads, (hopefully so we can still learn)... listening ears? (debatable!!)

Imagine 18 women yupping it up!!

8.  Enjoy a meal and savor Bicol cuisine, (courtesy of Susan Pales Castaneda) and get the chance to pick on Norma Mandane Bootan for coming in late!

7.   Glad for the opportunity to hug Fe Sazon Seva, and get to answer the perennial question "Are you married yet?"

Answer: "Are you kidding? And risk developing Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy?" ... had 18 loves just for that day...!

6. Spend a day with the rest of the Aquinas alumni on the same grounds we walked on, several decades ago. Met new friends, reconnect with old ones..

Special thanks to Owen Escalada Basco for bringing all of them together!

5.  HATS OFF TO:

Maria Llamas Rubino for her tireless effort in coordinating activities with the Aquinas University of Legazpi planning committees

Susan Monforte Matito and Julius Matito for providing us with a precious record of our memories, bringing those mementos for the class and prizes for the students

Judith F, for the class uniform during the medical Mission day

Edna R, for taking care of the "greens"

Chato B, for chairing the Medical Mission... what a trooper!

Zeny A, for updating our class record, once again... (we remember how you opened your home, and your heart during that first reunion a looong time ago... such loyalty!

4.  Appreciate and are grateful for the warm welcome from Dr. Ampy Binamira, Dean Vic Peralta and the Faculty of the College of Nursing

To my colleagues, for sharing your thoughts with the alumni and the students during the symposium. You had expressed how difficult it is for some of us to be "public speakers"

BUT you went out there and did it. You had the courage to be vulnerable! (Not to worry, my dear buddies, as nurses and mamas, you're way up there!!)

3.  Thanks, for being open-minded and lifelong learners, and for acknowledging the invaluable contribution of our mentors in our educational journey!

2. Happy, for the chance to celebrate an anniversary,  more birthdays, and DANCE!!!

1. Forever grateful, for Father Ernie's prayers, and the Dominican Fathers, for our Aquinian education.... PRICELESS!!!!

From Houston, with love, and some nostalgia!!

A Message From Your AULCNAI Outgoing President

AULCNAI
March  5, 2012

Dear Fellow Alumni,

Greetings to all!

I’m back to California and to work, but still suffering from jet lag. I posted the pictures of the reunion on Facebook so I can share with you the detailed account of the happenings of the four day event , from February 12 to February 15.

The Second Grand Reunion of AULCNAI and the Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of  Class of 1972, the Pioneers was a great success. The more than a year of planning this event  was a real challenge but the outcome is well worth the time and effort spent. These couldn’t have been accomplished without the support of Menchu Calisin, Maria Llamas Rubino, Chato Romano Buitizon and Dean Vic Peralta. I also would like to acknowledge the AUL College of Nursing Planning Committee and Dr. Ampy Binamira. Thank you to all the alumni that came from abroad and likewise to those that are based in the Philippines.

I believe we’ve  accomplished our objectives for this reunion – to Rekindle the Fire of Nursing Commitment, and to serve as Role Models to the Nursing Students.  Thanks to Dean Vic Peralta for allowing the junior and senior nursing students to attend the Feb. 13 event, Panel Discussion with Nursing Students and Symposium. The Nursing Students learned invaluable information from the expertise of their  predecessors.

I acknowledge  the Doctors, AUL Clinical Instructors and Nursing Students who volunteered their services to the Medical Mission in Brgy. Fidel Surtida, Sto. Domingo, Albay. Kudos to Class of 1972 for making the medical mission their special project. Despite of the inclementweather there was a huge turn out of patients. I was walking back and forth taking pictures, to the building where medical and dental patients are cared of and to the little building where medications are dispensed,  in the heavy rain. It was fun.

Thank you to all the international alumni, for their generous monetary donation to the medical mission. Their donation allowed us to buy and provide medicines  to the patients. We donated the surplus medicines to the community of Fidel Surtida.

AULCNAI donated $3,000 to AUL and AULCN, $500 to the Medical Mission and $200 worth of adult and children’s multi vitamins. From the $3,000 donation, AULCNAI gave $500 to the AUL Nursing Students who are competing  in Iriga City for the PNSA, ( Philippine Nursing Student Association),Meet  last Feb. 17. The Nursing Students were short of  fund. I stil have to find out from  Dean Peralta how the students fared the competition.  From same $3,000 donation, AULCNAI gave $500 to the Feeding Project  of AUL College of Nursing

The Class of 1972 donated P100,000 to buy the Bell for St. Pius V Hall. What a memorable gift, everytime the Bell rings everybody will remember the Pioneers of the College of Nursing.

February 15 was the day to celebrate all our accomplishments, with an evening soiree. Rev. Fr. Ernesto Arceo , Rector and President of AUL grace the event.

The four day  program of activities was so organized.  We all should give ourselves a pat in the back, Team Work is very effective.

I can proudly say that we all GAVE and SHARED.  This is what makes us an AQUINIAN NURSE – A GLOBAL PROFESSIONAL WITH BRAIN AND HEART.

NEW BEGINNINGS

Happy New Year, everyone!!

I had to sit down and write about the "Three Wise Men" on this, their feast day..They are my heroes! For starters, I admire them for their "navigational skills"..they found the Child Jesus, sans GPS, Mapquest, and Trip Tik..Now that, to me, is amazing, because as a travel nurse, I have been known to get lost even with these gizmos at my disposal!!.. ( It's no secret, they were receptive to God's voice within, and directions from UP ABOVE!!)

In honor of the Three Wise Men, here are some inspirational quotes, timeless wisdom from some spiritual giants, to guide us as we embark and continue on our "bumpy journeys "

" Live in the sunshine" .....Ralph Waldo Emerson
 (This can mean Florida!!)  ):

"Life's a voyage that is HOMEWARD BOUND"...Herman Melville

" EDUCATION..is about how to love, how to live simply, how to free our mind from prejudice, superstition, and fear. Great love is great intelligence..". J. Krisnamurti

" We all have different gifts, each of which came because of the grace God gave us".   Romans 12:6

" Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall" .....Confucius

" You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give."    Kahlil Gibran

" Even when you are old, I will be the same. Even when your hair has turned gray, I will take care of you."   Isaiah 46: 4

" The fruit of service is peace"..... Mother Teresa

Happy thoughts, everyone !!

See you soon,( to honor the past,  celebrate the present, and look forward with hope for the future!! )

PAX!!!
